The Story Behind Ploofies

The desire for crocheting was definitely hidden deep inside my childhood and was waiting to be resurfaced. When I was 9 I used to spend time with my grandmother making beanies on the round plastic circle with the prongs on it and boy I enjoyed it. However, when she passed away, those interests went to rest with her, and my love for yarn had been placed dormant.

While Active Duty in 2022, I went on maternity leave for my first born child. With nothing to do and an abundance of time I started to look for new hobbies. Gaming was fun, but it wasn’t fulfilling enough anymore. I stumbled across a video on social media of a woman hand-crocheting a blanket and thought, “That looks kinda fun, maybe I should try it.” So I took my little and I to the store and looked at yarn for the first time as an adult.

That was when it happened. Like tornado valley my entire life was about to be consumed by wonderful colors of yarn and different varieties until I found what fit me the most. I made my daughter a baby blanket out of blue, white, and grey, then proceeded into my newest interest, amigurumi.

My first plushie was not the greatest, and boy did I watch that YouTube video 100 times about how to make a magic ring. It was hard! But I didn’t give up. I slowly followed every step to make the little guy, attached his safety eyes and the smallest amount of polyfil to where his neck was limp, so i wrapped the string around his neck to keep him upright and called it a day. I finished my first plushie! Was it inside out? Yes. Was it understuffed? Yes. Was their substantially big holes where I could see the polyfil? Yes. But it was mine and I had made it.

It took me 4 years of crocheting to finally decide to branch out to social media and share my work. The online world is scary, people are extremely critical and don’t hold back when behind a screen. The fear of the unknown had me in a chokehold, but I decided to push through it and start posting the beginning of 2026. But what do we call the business? I had to find something unique to call our products. My husband and I are goofy and say things like “floofy” instead of “fluffy” as we find our humor very childlike. So we combined “floofy” and “plushies” and called it, “Ploofies”. Thats it, it stuck like butter and we ran with it.

Since then, I have designed 6 patterns of my own, Maven, Bea, Anubis, Bastet, Horus, Ra and I have loved every part of it. My desire is to to create an entire mythology series, astrology series and then some free patterns for holidays and video games. I am thankful for everyone who has supported me thus far on this journey and I hope to stick around longer to keep creating for everyone.
